Serious Syrah from Provence. The tannins are nice and soft though so you can drink this on its own. Whole bunch winemaking means this wine is a big serious Syrah but has juicy drinkability.
About Terre d'Esclans
Fabrice Raymond is the man behind Terre d’Esclans. Located in the tiny commune of La Motte in the south east corner of France, only around 20km from the sea. Fabrice is making some of the most exciting wines we have tasted in Provence. Right next to Chateau d'Esclans, this is 'Whispering Angel's natty next door neighbour.'
The vineyards have been farmed organically for over 20 years and Fabrice farms around 5 hectares of vines using biodynamic principles. Animal traction is a key aspect of Fabrice’s work, he uses horses to carry out many of the tasks in the vineyards which causes less damage to the vines and cover crops and also reduces compaction, maximizing the life in the soil.
Fabrice learned from his mother and was also mentored by the legendary Philippe Pacalet, a true pioneer of natural wine. The grape varieties Fabrice works with are Mouvedre, Cinsault, Carignan, Syrah, Cab Sav and Grenache. He also makes a delicious skin contact vermentino which blew our socks off! In the winery, the wines begin fermentation with indigenous yeasts, no pump overs, fining or filtration or SO2.
